As 2024 unfolds, Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network (YCYW) is delighted to announce that students across Yew Chung (YCIS) and Yew Wah (YWIES) schools have secured early offers from prestigious universities worldwide, including renowned institutions like the University of Oxford and Stanford University.
The University of Oxford's admissions release day on 9 January has brought exceptional news as three outstanding YCIS and YWIES students received early offers from this prestigious institution.
Among them, Tony of YCIS Hong Kong has earned a spot in the highly competitive Biomedical Sciences programme at the University of Oxford, a major with an average acceptance rate of only 9% over the past three years. Eason, from YWIES Shanghai Lingang, received an early offer for Engineering Science, a highly sought-after major among Chinese students, with an average acceptance rate of 16% between 2020 to 2022. Furthermore, Bella from YWIES Guangzhou has been offered a place in Fine Art, a top-ranking major highlighted in the Guardian's 2024 rankings, known for placing considerable importance on applicants’ artistic prowess, academic competence and portfolio excellence.
Adding to the achievements, YCIS Hong Kong secured a prestigious early offer from Stanford University. The success story continues for the YCIS and YWIES Class of 2024 with graduates receiving offers from the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, King's College London, the University of Edinburgh, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Parsons School of Design, and many others. It is worth mentioning that YWIES Zhejiang Tongxiang proudly earned its first early offer from University College London, a distinguished G5 institution in the United Kingdom, marking a significant milestone since the school's establishment.
“I would like to offer my congratulations to all the YCYW students who have had some excellent offers from a broad range of international universities this year. Of course, we are especially proud of those students who have had the tenacity, courage, determination and ability to apply for the top world universities - and are delighted with their success.
This year has been one of the most competitive years for applications to the University of Oxford and this makes the achievements of those students who applied, got to interview, and finally had offers even more remarkable. What is especially important to understand is that in all cases, the students were applying to some of the most competitive programmes at the top universities in the world, with success in disparate subjects such as Biomedical Sciences, Engineering and Fine Art. To the best of my knowledge this is the first student in the history of YCYW schools to gain a place to study Fine Art at the prestigious Ruskin School of Art at the University of Oxford. To apply for the University of Oxford is an outstanding achievement, to get an interview is quite remarkable, and to get an offer puts them in the top echelon of students globally.
Finally, I would like to offer thanks and congratulations to all those, teachers, CUGO counsellors, parents and school leaders who have supported YCYW students to their success. ”
