    • Topic: Supercontinent Convergence and Environmental Effects

      Keynote Speaker: Professor Guochun ZHAO

Chair Professor at The University of Hong Kong and Northwest University, the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, World Academy of Science (TWAS) for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries, and Hong Kong Academy of Sciences (HKAS).

In 1985 and 1988, Prof Zhao obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from the former Changchun Institute of Geology, now integrated into Jilin University. In 2000, Prof Zhao earned his Ph.D. from Curtin University in Australia. Specialising in Precambrian geology and supercontinents, Prof Zhao now holds the esteemed position of editor-in-chief at Precambrian Research, a prestigious international SCI journal.

Scientists have identified multiple occurrences of supercontinents throughout Earth's history. What is a supercontinent? How does it come into existence and change over time? How do processes like supercontinental assembly and breakup affect the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere? What characterised the environment when supercontinents existed, and how have scientists discovered the story of supercontinent formation? Could there be another supercontinent in our planet's future?
