    • What RNA studies have won the Nobel Prize? How do RNA modifications function, and how do they benefit our lives?

On the afternoon of October 27th, teachers from YCYW EdFutures brought five students from YWIES Lingang to the Shanghai Research Institute of the University of Science and Technology of China. They participated in a Mozi Salon event, featuring a talk by Professor Chuan He from the University of Chicago, a recipient of the Wolf Prize in Chemistry and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Professor He delivered a science lecture on biochemistry to an audience of over 200 people.

In his lecture, Professor He began with the history of RNA research, highlighting significant RNA studies that are linked to the Nobel Prize. He explored the role of RNA modifications and their benefits to everyday life. Professor He elaborated on how RNA methylation regulates gene expression and the importance of this process in areas such as the development of plants and animals, disease, and agriculture. He also shared how his research in gene regulation has contributed to advancements across various fields.

The YWIES students listened attentively, taking notes diligently. After the presentation, the audience interacted with the professor by asking questions, and Professor He provided detailed answers regarding RNA gene coding and the future of RNA research, further revealing how the genetic "paintbrush" adds colour through gene modifications.

Outside the lecture hall, the Shanghai Research Institute provided a variety of interactive activities for the audience. This event not only inspired YWIES students with a passion for science but also helped them understand the latest cutting-edge scientific advancements and the forefront ideas in science globally.
