YCYW Launches HKDSE Training: Strengthening Teaching Foundations

YCYW recently organised a three-and-a-half-day training programme in order to facilitate the successful implementation of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Programme at YCIS Shanghai, YCIS Beijing, YCIS Qingdao, YWIES Guangzhou, and YWIES Zhejiang Tongxiang during the 2025-2026 academic year.

Representatives from the management and the marketing teams of the five YCYW schools attended this event at the YCYW headquarters in Hong Kong SAR, and engaged in interactive discussions with experts from the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). This training focused on core aspects of YCYW's implementation of the HKDSE Programme. Through theoretical learning, case studies, and site visits, the training improved the YCYW team's understanding of HKDSE and its ability to implement the programme.

    • Systematic Training: Covering the Whole Process of Programme Implementation

The training addressed practical needs for the delivery of the HKDSE Programme. The contents of the training thus covered three key modules: analysis of pathways for further education, integration of teaching resources, and strategies for teaching the subjects.

The first day of the training focused on the further education pathways of HKDSE, and systematically outlined the connection between the HKDSE and the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). Using a "three-channel pathway" model, the team learned key points for planning further education for students from different academic backgrounds. On the second day of the training, representatives from textbook publishing organisations in Hong Kong SAR shared insights on the logic behind HKDSE textbook development and the adaptation of teaching resources. They also discussed strategies to optimise curriculum resources in a bilingual teaching environment. During the discussions on subject teaching, the training lecturers compared the assessment standards of HKDSE with those of other international curricula, such as the A Levels and IB. This helped the YCYW team to further clarify the teaching focus and curriculum planning for core subjects, such as  English Language and Chinese Language.

To enhance the practical value of the training, an HKDSE graduate from the Chinese mainland had been invited to share his learning and examination experiences. This real-life example provided an important basis for the team to understand the needs of students and how to optimise curriculum support.

Visits and Exchanges: Links to Educational Resources in Hong Kong SAR

As an integral part of the training, the YCYW team visited the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the EdUHK to gain a deeper understanding of the latest developments in education in Hong Kong SAR. Team members engaged in discussions with experts on topics such as the international recognition of the HKDSE programme and its advantages for further education. The HKDSE programme has been recognised by more than 400 universities around the world for its flexibility and academic rigour. It aligns with YCYW's educational philosophy of nurturing students' comprehensive abilities. Experts from EdUHK also shared practical cases of AI application in secondary education in Hong Kong SAR.

This visit further strengthened the cooperation between YCYW and educational institutions in Hong Kong SAR, and established communication channels for future development of teaching materials and teacher training. As the end of the visit, team members received training certificates issued by the CELT at EdUHK.

    Collaborative Advancement: Harnessing Cross-Regional Resources

This training marks a critical phase in the preparations for the YCYW HKDSE Programme. By leveraging Hong Kong SAR’s regional strengths, the five campuses adopted a “localised training plus cross-regional collaboration” model to integrate resources from Hong Kong SAR and the Chinese mainland. Previously, the five campuses had held information sessions to showcase the features and further education framework of the HKDSE programme to interested families. The training further focused on the details of teaching implementation, and provided multi-dimensional support for the curriculum's rollout through the use of the academic resources of universities in Hong Kong SAR and the textbooks of Hong Kong publishing organisations.

Starting in mid-to-late March, YCYW will continue to hold HKDSE Information Sessions and one-on-one consultations at YCIS Shanghai, YCIS Beijing, YCIS Qingdao, YWIES Guangzhou, and YWIES Zhejiang Tongxiang. We welcome interested families to join us, and we will announce the details shortly.
