We are delighted to share the news that our students from YCIS Hong Kong, YCIS Shanghai, YCIS Beijing, YCIS Chongqing, and YCIS Qingdao have completed the IB programme with great success. They have reached new milestones on their journey to becoming lifelong learners!

In the May 2024 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) exams, 20 percent of YCIS graduates scored 40 points or above, and three students even achieved a perfect score of 45 points.

In addition, 59 percent of the students earned the challenging Bilingual Diploma, demonstrating excellent bilingualism and cross-cultural understanding. During the past five years, the global average percentage of candidates who have obtained the IB Bilingual Diploma has been only 26.18 percent. The IB Bilingual Diploma requires students to do two languages from the DP course studies in language and literature, or two subjects from the curriculum in a non-native language, demanding bilingual abilities at a native language level.

    • The students' achievements are not only recognition of their tireless efforts but also a vivid illustration of the Yew Chung Yew Wah education philosophy.

Ms Deborah McNally, YCYW's Head of Academic Achievement (Secondary), expressed pride in all the students and their achievements.

"Over the past two years, our students have worked incredibly hard and have been supported every step of the way by their fantastic teachers, IB coordinators, and senior leadership teams across all of our schools.

Students receive comprehensive academic support throughout the diploma course. This includes guidance in making the best subject choices, dedicated study areas, and one-on-one support during the period leading up to the examinations. Yew Chung teachers are deeply committed to IB professional development, with many participating in the IBEN (IB Educator Network) to stay current with all IB-endorsed teaching and learning initiatives.

We also prioritise the well-being of our students, offering a range of support throughout the IB Diploma course. However, in the lead up to the final exams, these include stress management seminars from experts, regular student achievement awards for motivation, and various extracurricular activities to ensure a healthy balance between study and relaxation.

As Head of Academic Achievement, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our students on their hard work and remarkable accomplishments!"

    • As a pioneer in international education, Yew Chung Yew Wah is dedicated to cultivating future leaders with global perspectives, cross-cultural communication skills, and a strong sense of social responsibility. We believe in nurturing each child's unique talents to their fullest potential.

During the 2024 university admissions season, YCYW graduates received conditional offers from some of the world's top universities, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Stanford University, Cornell University, Imperial College London, and Tsinghua University. What is particularly gratifying is that during their studies at YCYW, the graduates were able to explore their inner passions and aspirations, ultimately selecting paths that align with their interests, talents, and professional aspirations.

Hoi Kiu Chan from YCIS Hong Kong achieved a perfect score of 45 in the IB exams. She has received offers from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, for both prestigious medical and law programmes.

"Not only am I proud of the hard work I've put in to earn these offers, but I'm also deeply grateful to my teachers and the CUGO (Careers and University Guidance Office) for their invaluable guidance throughout this journey. I intent to leverage my knowledge, diligence, and compassion to aid those in need. Becoming a doctor would enable me to blend my passion in science with direct human interaction. Ultimately, I aspire to play a leading member in Hong Kong SAR's healthcare system, influencing policy and enhancing global public health standards," she said.

Augusta Tang, also from YCIS Hong Kong who achieved 45 points, aspires to pursue a career in the medical field and become a doctor in the future.

She shared, "Volunteering at Queen Mary Hospital and shadowing medical professionals made me realise that medicine involves much more than just science and technology, it is also about providing emotional and physical care to patients. This meaningful combination of scientific knowledge and human compassion has inspired me to pursue a career in medicine."

A total of 27 students from YCIS Hong Kong scored 40 or above. Many of these students, like Hoi Kiu Chan and Augusta Tang, have been at YCIS since their early years and thrived under the school's holistic education philosophy.

Minjoo Kim, a Korean student from YCIS Shanghai, is among the top 3 scorers. She achieved a grade 7 in English B SL. Since joining the school in Year 7, she has made remarkable progress in her English language proficiency through the school's EAL (English as an Additional Language) programme.

"I'm just so happy that my 2 years efforts paid off! I really appreciate my teachers and friends because I wouldn't be able to handle everything if I was without them. The IB was very challenging and pushed me to my limits, but I think this process helped me learn how to control myself and prepared me for future challenges," she shared.

We recognise that completing an educational programme marks just one significant milestone in our students' journey, not the final destination. We encourage all our students to maintain their quest for knowledge and their curiosity about the world, and to meet life's challenges and opportunities with passion and unwavering determination.
